Maintaining Privacy in Your Divorce

July 19, 2024 By Richard Shannon

If maintaining privacy and confidentiality is a priority for you during a divorce, considering a collaborative divorce might be the best decision for both you and your spouse.

In a traditional courthouse setting, divorce proceedings can become quite public. There could be numerous instances where you’re required to appear in court, potentially running into acquaintances, friends, business associates, or even competitors who you’d rather not know about your divorce.

Additionally, if there are contested hearings, you or your spouse might have to testify in open court about personal aspects of your married life, including private matters like business operations, finances, and more. This exposure to public scrutiny can lead to significant stress and anxiety for some individuals, making the collaborative divorce process a more appealing option.

The Collaborative Divorce process offers greater privacy because minimal paperwork needs to be filed with the court.

If you’re keen on avoiding courthouse appearances altogether, Collaborative Divorce is the ideal solution.

In a traditional litigated divorce, there’s a possibility of multiple court appearances for contested hearings and disputes over various issues, including children, assets, and discovery disputes. The prospect of facing these challenges in a public courtroom setting may be daunting, prompting parties to seek alternatives.

If you go the collaborative route and come to an agreement, you might only have to go to court once to finish up the divorce. And in some places, you might not even need to go to court at all. So, if you want to keep your divorce on the down-low, collaborative divorce could be the way to go.

Divorce can be challenging, regardless of your location.

However, there are strategies to cope with the process. If maintaining privacy and confidentiality in your divorce process, collaborative divorce might be the best choice.
